Once again, St. Machar Academy embarked on the Rock Challenge competition.
Staff and pupils began working on the project in September 2009 and worked for six months to choreograh a routine, build the set, make the costumes and fundraise for the event.
On the 19th of February the cast of over 80 pupils and 10 staff members made their way to the AECC to compete with 12 schools from Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshireshire (Banff, Bucksburn, Ellon, Fraserburgh, Mackie, Kemnay, Mintlaw, Northfield, Peterhead, Torry, Turriff, and Westhill Academies).
Pupils spent the day at the AECC rehearsing, watching the other schools rehearse, making new friends and watching the teachers dance on stage.
A brilliant day was had by all. After a late finish to the evening, the team left with the Grampian police award for set design, The Tega Award for Lighting Design as well as awards for Community Support and Positive Inclusion.
The top three places were awarded to Westhill (1st), Mackie (2nd) and St. Machar (3rd).
Quest for a king followed the story of An Egyptian Queen who returns from the dead searching for a King. She discovers that power and wealth mean nothing when it comes to true love. In the past, in the present and forevermore love must be given freely, it can never be taken by force.
